JUDGE A. J. WAGNER

Judge Wagner was elected a General Division Judge in 2000. He is Chair of the Judicial Criminal Practice Committee and serves on the Judicial Budget, Executive and Jury Management Committees.

Judge Wagner received his B.S. from the University of Steubenville in 1973 and his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1977.

Judge Wagner was employed by the City of Dayton from 1975-1979. He was in the private practice of law from 1978-1980, and with Hyatt Legal Services from 1980-1982. Judge Wagner was Referee with the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, Probate Division, from 1982-1985. In 1985-1986, he served as Trust Officer for Society Bank. From 1986-1991, Judge Wagner was a partner in the firm of Shively and Wagner. He was in the private practice of law from 1997-2000. Judge Wagner served as Montgomery County Auditor from 1991-2000.

Judge Wagner is a member of the American, Ohio and Dayton Bar Associations, and Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association. Judge Wagner represents the Judges of Ohio as a member of the Ohio Council of County Officials.

Judge Wagner has been President of the University of Dayton School Of Law Alumni Association, Chair of the Dayton Civil Service Board, Chair of the Montgomery County Elected Officials, a member of the Miami Valley RTA Board of Trustees and numerous other community boards.

Judge Wagner is also a published author with four books to his credit. Proceeds from his first book, How Old is Old? a collection of children's poetry, benefitted the YWCA Shelter and Housing Network. His second book, A Miracle on Alaska Street, has been used throughout the United States as a guide for character education. The most recent book, A Pocket Full of Smirks, will benefit the Children's Therapy Program at the Artemis Center for Alternatives to Domestic Violence.
